As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, the Beloved Son, we deepen in our understanding of His way and His will. What is happening is that we are “being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator” (Colossians 3:10). As we rid ourselves more and more of the old nature and all of its dead-end practices, we grow in maturity in Christ in whom our lives are “hidden with Him in God” (Colossians 3:3). With this growing maturity, we begin to acquire the very mind of Christ as we think His thoughts after Him. This is the “sanctification” process or “spiritual formation” process–whichever language suits you best.
Little by little, as we listen, obey, learn to trust the promises of God, we grow in the very wisdom and knowlege of Jesus, Yeshua–“in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 3:2). The Scriptures speak of this process:
Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. (I Cor. 2:16)
“My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you . . . ” (Galatians 6:19)
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
