Deepen your spiritual life with the family prayer

Sacred Signpost #2: Secrets

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, He taught them what His people have called, “The Lord’s Prayer” (Matthew 6:9). Actually, I think more correctly this powerful prayer is better thought of as  “The Disciple’s Prayer” or “The Family Prayer.” I pray it every day. It centers my soul and stabilizes me to remember who I am, whose I am, and where I find my deepest needs met. I do not pray our family prayer in a rote, methodical way. I pray it slowly, embracing each word and every phrase, stopping myself until I mean it –as one looks deep into the eyes of Abba, Father. My Father, who is in heaven, holy is Your name . . . The Spirit instructed me to do this when this poem was delivered to my soul. I call it “Secret Life.”
